Why I Chose Arab American Literature

 I chose this class because I haven't really dived into Arab literature. Which feels like a disgrace to say since I've taken so many classes to learn Arabic. I also tend to read more fantasy books than fiction or non-fiction, so I felt this class would be a good way to ease myself into those genres. Hafsah Faizal and Sabaa Tahir are two authors who've been on my radar for a while and are the only Arab American authors I can think of at the moment. Tahir’s debut series An Ember in the Ashes has been on my to be read list for months now and I’m hoping to start it soon. And by soon I mean when I’m not swamped with capstone. She also recently released a new book called Heir which I hope to check out soon. I don’t know too much about the Arab American community but I know there’s a massive community in Michigan that’s rich with culture and people.
